Foster Feature: Gabe The Babe!

Adoptable at Love-A-Bull.org

Gabe’s Story

Gabe was found in Lancaster, Texas when he was 2 years old. He joined the Love-A-Bull program in July of 2020. From the start, he was an intelligent and goofy boy. This “smart Marmaduke” was eager to please, and loved having a job. However, he’s very protective and started to guard his foster mom from his foster dad. Gabe has been consistently training to combat this, but if he gets bored this is his default.

In August of 2020, Gabe was adopted by a loving family that included a dog brother. That family worked hard to have Gabe bond with his new dad, given his tendency to protect his previous foster moms. With the diligent work, Gabe was successful, and developed a bond with his dad! Unfortunately, Gabe began to get protective over his new dad and scuffle with his brother, so this family enlisted the help of a trainer. Unfortunately, the methods this trainer used did not work well for Gabe. Gabe and his brother continued to fight, and their vet recommended that Gabe be re-homed. (It should be noted that Gabe has never bitten a human!)

Gabe re-entered the Love-A-Bull program in September of 2021. He was understandably confused, and stressed. Gabe underwent evaluation by a vet behaviorist, and was diagnosed with anxiety. Due to the turbulence of his life, this boy just wasn’t comfortable in his own skin… He was prescribed Prozac, and has since returned to his happy goofy self. However, he’s still not big on cuddling and affection. His rescue team describes him as a cat in a dog’s body. He will occasionally approach and allow you to pet him for a few seconds, but as quickly as he arrives - he’s gone!

Overall, Gabe is an incredibly special and friendly boy in his own way. He truly is a great dog. All he needs is an experienced home that can love him the way he deserves and provide him with a home!
