Duck Farm Dog Park Review

Part 3 of 5 Reviewing Dog Parks of Lake County!

Are Benji and I getting spoiled?

We’re officially half way done reviewing all the dog parks in Lake County, and I have to say - it’s been an extremely fun endeavor so far. That being said, I think Benji and I are starting to get spoiled in our dog park picks. After visiting 2 beyond incredible dog parks, I couldn’t help feeling a little let down by Duck Farm… Now, compared to your average US dog park? It’s wonderful - large spaces, easy parking, not too crowded… etc. Anyways, let’s dive into our review.

Permit: YES - See our previous blog post for more info - What To Know About The 5 Dog Parks Of Lake County

Environment: 4/5

At 48 acres, this park is huge - much like the other parks in Lake County. However, it was significantly more muddy, and there weren’t as many trails compared to Independence Grove and Lakewood. The front half seems to be where dogs can play and interact, whereas the back half is better for wandering and exploring. There also isn’t any water to play in. However, there are plenty of garbage cans and even a few benches and picnic tables throughout the park.

Cleanliness: 3/5

The biggest drawback, in my opinion, is that the small stream has dangerously high levels of bacteria. There’s signs located around the park warning dog parents to keep their dogs away. Benji has great recall, so it was easy for me to keep him away from it - but I could see this being a big risk for your water loving doggo. As I mentioned above, it was also incredibly muddy, so I’d recommend hiking boots! On the positive side, people clean up after their dogs, and there are complimentary doggy bags available.

Amenities: 5/5

Parking was extremely easy here, which is always a plus! At some of the other more crowded parks, it can be a struggle to find a spot during prime times. There is also an onsite (human) bathroom, water fountain, and complimentary doggy bags. (Water fountain currently out of order due to COVID!) It appeared that the water fountain was for humans only - so make sure you bring some water for your dog, too!

Traffic: Light/Moderate

This was the least trafficked dog park in Lake County so far. This means easier parking and more space for you and your dog, but can be a downside if you’re looking for doggy playmates (or new Dog Mom Friends!)!

PROS:

  • Large open spaces

  • Easy Parking

  • Less traffic

  • On site human bathrooms and water fountain

  • Complimentary doggy bags

CONS:

  • Unclean water

  • Muddy terrain

  • No water to play in

Overall Rating: 3/5 Wags

So to answer our first question - Benji and I are definitely getting spoiled. I felt a bit of guilt writing this review, because this park truly is great when compared to your average small field that’s considered a “dog park.” However, if your commute isn’t too much longer to go to Independence Grove or Lakewood - I’d have to recommend those instead!

But hey, I’m always open to other’s opinions… So, if you’ve been to Duck Farm Dog Park - and think I should give it a second chance, let me know what I’ve missed! (TheDogMaPack@gmail.com)
