What’s a “DogMa?”

Calling Dog Moms Everywhere

First question - do you love your dog? No… I mean like LOVE your dog. Are you someone who actively seeks to bring their dog with them everywhere, and will cancel plans on any non-dog-friendly events? Have you ever caught yourself scheduling extra time in your walk/commute or intentionally crossing the street to say hello to a cute dog passing by? Have you ever wished you could find a community of #DogObsessed individuals like yourself? If you said yes to any of the above questions, you’re in the right place.

Becoming Dog A Dog Mom

My journey as a DogMa started back in April of 2020. COVID had just hit, and everything was shutting down. My husband (Benji’s dad) and I had been waiting for the right time to rescue a dog, but had been busy with school and work. After weeks of researching, I found Benji listed on PetFinder. On a whim, we decided to submit an application (we had been doing so for weeks, and barely got a response back due to the high demand). To our surprise, Benji was available, and we were first in line to adopt him. We went to “just look,” which we both knew was code for immediately take him home.

Benji the Rescue - (or To The Rescue!)

Benji came to us in rough condition. He was shy, had torn up ears, was very underweight, and extremely sick. Despite all of that, he was loving and trusting immediately. Both Benji’s dad and I were absolutely shocked at how well trained he was. To this day, we joke that our only job as dog parents was to not mess him up. As much work, time and effort as we put into helping Benji adjust and get healthy, he truly rescued us as well. At a time that I’m sure many of us were struggling from the effects, fear and sadness that COVID brought - Benji has always been a light in our lives.

Benji also brought with him a community of individuals we met as we explored dog friendly places and events. To this day, some of my closest friends are those I met through the dog park. (Hi Jess, Troy, Rita, Bobby, and Scooby Gang!!) The love we have for Benji, and all the friends we made along the way are the inspiration for this blog and for developing this community. We can’t wait to share all our adventures and friendships with you along the way!
